Following its meteoric rise in 2022, hype around the MoonSwatch has seemingly faded. Still, Swatch continues to release new versions, albeit at a slower pace.
The latest MoonSwatch is the Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold, a limited “timed” edition that will reportedly be available for sale (August 9, 2025), only in-person at select Swatch stores.
Launch timing is in sync with the full moon that occurs on August 9th, referred to as the “Sturgeon Moon,” which derives its name from the sturgeon fish, traditionally caught during this time in lakes and rivers.
Swatch’s latest MoonSwatch features a Snoopy and Woodstock drawing on the Moon, printed beneath the Earthphase display at 10 o’clock, along with a Moonphase indication opposite it at 2 o’clock, which features two full moons, coated with a thin layer of Omega’s proprietary Moonshine Gold.
Traditional centrally mounted hour and minute hands, along with a small seconds display at 6 o’clock, indicate the time. Unusually, the central chronograph seconds hand is the only displayable chronograph function (no minutes or hours), exactly like with the original Mission to Earthphase.
In addition to green-emitting lume on the indices, hour, minute, and chronograph seconds hands, there’s a blue-emitting lume on the Earth within the Earthphase indication, as well as a message “I Beat Everybody…,” which references a 1969 Peanuts comic strip. The same message is repeated in non-luminous print on the caseback.
Swatch used a navy blue-colored version of its existing 30-meter water-resistant bioceramic (ceramic/plastic) case, which measures 42 mm × 13.75 mm (47.30 mm lug-to-lug). Notably, this MoonSwatch comes with an upgraded rubber and Velcro strap that Swatch also sells separately for $45. This is a welcome enhancement to the standard straps that come with all past MoonSwatches. The Mission to Earthphase Moonshine Gold (Ref. SO33N701L) uses a battery-powered Swiss quartz movement and retails for $400.
